IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rodney
King
December 12, 1966 – September 21, 2021
Rodney was born on December 12, 1966 in New Orleans, Louisiana to James and Delores King. He had 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
He grew up in Slidell, Louisiana and attended Florida Avenue Elementary School, Slidell Jr. High and Slidell Senior High School. He also attended all 4 years and graduated from seminary. At a young age, Rodney was good with computers and loved to fish and camp.
He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the California, Ventura Mission.
After his mission he attended BYU where he studied electrical engineering and computer sciences.
Rodney fell in love with Sherrolyn Joy Mecham and they were married in the Manti LDS Temple on August 12, 1992. They have been happily married for just over 29 years.
Rodney is the father of 5 wonderful, beautiful children: Kayla Joy, Melissa Beth, Matthew James, Tiffany Anne and Brandon Rodney. He felt that his family was his greatest accomplishment in life.
Rodney worked for Verizon's corporate office for 25 years as a software systems engineer and dearly loved those he worked with. Some of his most cherished friendships were found there.
Rodney loved animals, computers, people, fishing, biking, mountains, rivers, lakes, trees, gardening, building, creating, fresh air and being barefoot.
He served without ever wanting anything in return. He was the life of the party, had an unforgettable laugh and wanted to cheer up all that were around him. He loved to make people laugh and always searched out the one person who needed a listening ear, a caring companion, or a helpful hand.
He had a serving heart, a great sense of humor and was kind to all. He is greatly loved and will be missed by all that knew him.
Rodney is survived by his wife, Sherrolyn Joy King; his daughters, Kayla Joy, Melissa Beth (Mario) Estrada, Tiffany Anne; sons, Matthew James and Brandon Rodney; brothers Richard (Tammy) King, Randy (Cherilyn) King, Robert (Shannon) King, Royce (Ocie) King, Ryan King; sister Patience (C.J.) Breaux.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James Lael King and Delores Ray Corley King; sister Pamela King.
