Rohn Burton McKee died Saturday, July 7,2012, photographing the beautiful mountains that he loved. For all that knew him, he felt the best when he was in Gods Country! He loved the dirt and the soil, and all that was planted in it. His vision and view of the beauty God created helped him create the most beautiful landscapes that literally helped all who saw his work feel closer to God themselves.
Rohn was born in Salt Lake County, Utah, on June 23, 1948, the third child to Norman and Minnie Burton McKee. As a child he lived in Salt Lake City, Oregon, Lehi, Utah, and Logan, Utah. As a young boy he began his love of the land, gardening and farming almost before he could talk.
He attended Utah State University in Logan a year before his L.D.S. Mission to Western Canada where he found joy teaching the Cree Indians. After his mission he returned to U.S.U, married Ondrea Johnson, and graduated with a degree in botany.
Rohn taught science at Erving Jr. High in Pocatello, Idaho, then took a higher paying job as an artist/illustrator at the INEL (now INL). Needing to get back into the dirt and use his knowledge of plants, the family moved to Smithfield, Utah, where he took a position as landscape manager at the Summit Creek Golf Course.
In 1981 Rohn moved to manage the Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis Course in Jackson, Wyoming. In the Fall of 1993, Rohn started a family landscaping design business called Greenspace. He was an award winning landscape designer and created some of the most beautiful landscapes in the Teton Valleys of Idaho and Wyoming.
Over the past ten years he has become an exceptional photographer, and has spend every spare moment taking pictures in the Idaho and Wyoming mountains.
Rohn is survived by his wife Ondrea, children Rohn Tyler McKee (Heidi Tripp) of Twin Falls, Heather McKee Russon (Neal) of Idaho Falls, Jace Johnson McKee (Wendy McEntire) of Syracuse, Utah, Amy McKee Berringer (Ryan) of Purcellville, Virginia, Lohn Johnson McKee (Sharon Dahle) of Midlothian, Virginia, and Aaron Reed McKee (Whitney Moranz) of Tetonia, Idaho. Surviving are his sisters Kathy Evans, Coleen Thompson, and Charleen Davis; brothers Michael McKee, Steve McKee, Rex McKee and 28 grandchildren to date. Rohn loved his family and grandchildren.
He left this earth from a beautiful place and entered Heaven, where we are sure his next assignment will be to create a garden for us when we join him. He will be sorely missed until we meet again.
Funeral services will be held Saturday July 14, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Driggs LDS Stake Center. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.. and again on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. both at the church.
