Ross K. Clements, 88, passed away on Wednesday, September 5, 2012. He died while tending the canal he has overseen as waterrmaster for the last 51 years—just yards from where he was born. He spent many wonderful childhood years playing, rafting, and swimming in this same canal.
He was born on February 20, 1924 to Cecil T. and Minnie Irene Anderson Clements. He was the ninth of twelve children.
He attended Hibbard Elementary and graduated from Madison High School. He achieved bachelor's and master's degrees from Utah State University and did additional graduate work at Michigan State.
He was very proud of his three-year military service during World War II, where he fought on Okinawa and participated in the occupation of Japan.
Following the war, he served an LDS mission to the North Central States. On June 15, 1953, he married Carol Bunnell in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They have six children.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ross served in three bishoprics, including bishop on the Ricks College campus, as a high councilor, high-priest group leader, an officiator in both Idaho Falls and Rexburg temples, and in many other enjoyable callings. Ross and Carol served together in the Perth Western Australia Mission.
He will be greatly missed by his survivors: his wife, Carol Clements, of Rexburg, Idaho; his son, Rick (Rosann) Clements, of Rexburg, Idaho; his son, Bart (Tami) Clements, of Rexburg, Idaho; his daughter, Leigh (Mark) Hawes, of Eugene, Oregon; his daughter, Kathleen (Kerry) Mower, of Stanley, New Mexico; his daughter Marian (Kent) Hayes, of Rexburg, Idaho; and his son, Max (Melanie) Clements, of Rexburg, Idaho. His living siblings include Bertha Fullmer of Boulder, Utah; Irma Hill of Sunnydell, Idaho; Vaun (Maurine) Clements of Buhl, Idaho; and Venese Bowen of Hibbard, Idaho. He is also survived by 32 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, three brothers, and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 12th, at the Henry's Fork Stake Center, 1508 W. 3000 N., Rexburg, Idaho. The family will receive friends Tuesday, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home and again from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services.
Interment will be in the Rexburg Cemetery. Military rites will be performed.
