Ross Beck Hinckley, 76, of Burton, passed away May 2, 2011, at his home of natural causes. He was born July 24, 1934, in Rexburg, the son of Carl Alonzo and Minnie Beck Hinckley. He was the third child and first son. He lived in the Rexburg and Burton areas all of his life.
He attended Washington and Burton elementary schools and graduated from Madison High School.
He married Nancy Petersen, of Rigby, on February 11, 1955 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities. He served as financial clerk for eleven years, as an assistant and secretary in the High Priest Group. He also enjoyed the Elders Quorum and helped plan many socials. He was active in Scouting and served as the committee chair of both the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts. He was a faithful home teacher for 62 years.
He helped in the construction of the Burton Chapel. He also helped his father build the family home. As a young man he worked for many of the area farmers. He was employed at Rexburg Motor, managed the Welker Egg Farm, owned a milk route and hauled milk for Nelson Ricks Creamery. He owned a dirt hauling business. In 1968, he was employed at Hoff Lumber Company, which later became Louisiana Pacific Lumber Company. He was working in the loading and receiving division when the mill closed in 1994. As a semi-retiree he worked for the Madison School District lunch program for 15 years before retiring in September of 2010.
He enjoyed being with his family of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and looked forward to all the get-togethers. He loved riding his bicycle and was starting on his second 10,000 miles. He loved to listen to good music, travel, tinker, and took pride in keeping and maintaining a tidy and clean yard. He loved to visit with neighbors, friends and relatives, and even those he did not know.
He was a great example to all his family and had a quiet way about him. He could be quite humorous. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his spouse, Nancy and children; Susan (Bruce) Cook of Idaho Falls, Scott (Paula) Hinckley of Tyler, Texas, Ron Hinckley of Burton, Robyn (Dennis) Marston of Rexburg, Corey Hinckley of Rigby; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren with one on the way; a sister Jean (Doyle) Thomson of Othello, Washington and a brother Carl Hinckley of Iona.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, at the Burton LDS Chapel with Bishop Christopher Lowry of the Burton First Ward officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Rexburg Cemetery under the direction of Flamm Funeral Home.
