Rudgar Eldon "Rud" Phillips Jr. was called home to his Heavenly Father August 1, 2016 following a battle with brain cancer. He was born April 6, 1948 in Thatcher, Arizona, the third child of Rudgar Eldon Phillips and Annice Lee. He spent his early school years in Thatcher where he played football and worked for the family trucking company.
He married Carol Jean Anglin June 14, 1968. They had three children and later divorced. He married Toni Stoddard on February 2, 1985. They made their home in Rexburg, Idaho. Rud was a salesman for Fisher Scientific and Genentech Pharmaceuticals. He later changed professions and entered the construction field where he became a master carpenter.
Rud was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings including the Young Men's organization, the Sunday School and Primary.
He was always excited to play with his grandchildren and attend as many of their activities as possible. They each held a very special place in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a stepfather, Eugene Cope, and one brother -in -law. He is survived by his wife Toni, a brother Max Phillips, sisters Ann Woods and Delia (Rue) Mattice, and children Carol Jean (Ryan) Toburen, Jacob (Sandy) Phillips, Matt (Kaylene) Phillips, Steven (K.T.) MacKay, Chris (Jenniffer) MacKay, Heather (Brett) Benson, Alan (Maria) MacKay, Eric (Lindsay) MacKay, 29 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 5, in the Rigby 2nd Ward Chapel, 364 North 4100 East, with Bishop Brent Kunz officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Friday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Teton-Newdale Cemetery.
