Ruth Alice Chambers Hinckley, 77, of Rexburg, passed away May 4, 2011 of natural causes. She was born January 17, 1934 in Independence, Idaho to Joseph Thurman Chambers and Rose Flamm.
She attended elementary school in Independence, Idaho and she attended junior high, high school and Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho.
She married Ted K. Hinckley in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on October 13, 1953 and enjoyed 57 years of marriage.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in Cub Scouts, Relief Society, Young Women's and Primary.
When she was first married she worked for Rexall Drug and King's. While her husband was in the Air Force she worked in A&P Grocery Store in Winter Park, Florida. After her husband was discharged, she raised four children. When the children were in high school, she went to work for Rexburg Food Center, J.C. Penny's and Artco where she retired after twenty years.
She was skilled in many crafts including tatting, quilting, ceramics, crocheting, and sewing. She kept a large garden and beautiful flowers. She enjoyed canning her own jams, jellies, fruits and vegetables that she had grown. Ruth thought these very important and taught them to her children. She was aware of others needs and was always willing to help. She participated in many humanitarian projects for the church. She loved having the family together and enjoyed her children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband, Ted; children, Julie Hinckley of Rexburg, Michael C. (Karla) Hinckley of LaVerkin, Utah, Lisa (LaWayne) Danielson of Rexburg and Patricia Layton of Rexburg, as well as eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 9th at the Lyman 1st Ward Chapel with Bishop Dan Peterson officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home and again from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Sutton Cemetery.
