Obituary

Samuel Paul Miller, 79 of Rexburg, Idaho, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on April 6, 2023.

He was born January 2, 1944 at his parent's house in Hackett, Arkansas to William Paul Miller and Nina Miller. He spent his childhood in Hackett playing in the country on the family farm. He moved to Wilmington, California with his parents, who opened a small market, called Miller's market. He attended Banning High School in Wilmington, California.

Sam was married to Janet Ann Gordon, and they had three boys, Scott Paul Miller, Thor McCuan Miller, and Bobby William Miller. Sam was married to Janet for 52 years.

Sam worked in Wilmington as a longshoreman on the docks unloading cargo ships and performing a variety of tasks. He loved his job and was very passionate about it. Eager to get away from the smog of Southern California, he moved his family to Rexburg, Idaho in 1981 and immediately took a position as a Madison County deputy sheriff. Later he worked in the agricultural industry at Intermountain Farmers, Cenex, and Helena Chemical.

Sam was active in the community by serving in the Masonic Lodge, teaching hunter's education courses, assisting with Boy Scout programs, serving as an EMT, and helping start Madison County's child identification program. He also found fulfillment helping children get needed medical treatment through his 10 years as a Shiner. He enjoyed sharing his life experiences and teaching others.

He discovered his true passion during his teenage years, building hot rods and drag racing at Lyons dragstrip in Southern California. In his later years he shared his love of cars with his wife and family, participating in the Corvettes of Southeast Idaho car club. He was always looking to hot rod something or polishing one of his Corvettes. He developed many personal lasting relationships through his work, community service, and his hobbies.

Sam truly loved waterfowl and upland bird hunting expeditions that created irreplaceable memories around campfires or in the duck blind with his sons, grand kids, and friends. Some of the best memories he had were from hunting trips at the Salton Sea and Kern River in California, all over Eastern Idaho, and North Dakota.

He is survived by his three sons, Scott Paul Miller, of Boise, Idaho, Thor McCuan Miller, of Rexburg, Idaho, Bobby William Miller, of Williston, North Dakota, his nephew, "Little Gary" Miller, of Santa Maria, California, 4 Grandkids, and 1 Great Granddaughter

He was proceeded in death by his wife, Janet Ann Gordon, his brother, "Big Gary" Miller, and his parents.
