Obituary

Sandra Kay Parker Browning was born January 7, 1939 in Portland Oregon to Albert & Denice Parker.  She passed away at the age of 85 on June 30, 2024 in Mesquite, Nevada with family members at her side.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert & Denice Parker, and her brother Don Parker.  She is survived by her older sister Sarah Brown, her husband of 66 years, Jerry Browning and her 7 children and their spouses:  Robine & (Larry) Singleton, Lynnette & (Ross) Doxey, Brenda & (David) Bunnell, Royce & (Rachel) Browning, Keith & (Luana) Browning, Mark & (Cindy) Browning, Melissa & (Dennis) Gray.  She is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren.

She grew up in Multnomah, Oregon where she attended grade school and loved exploring the wooded area around her home, where she enjoyed finding and picking huge fresh blackberries for eating.  Her family moved to St. Anthony, Idaho when she was 13 years old, and there she attended South Fremont High School.  She attended Ricks College in Rexburg where she graduated with a two year Associate Degree in Elementary Education.  Her college days were filled with fun activities, including belonging to a dance club, and being a member of the "Vikidette" marching team.  She belonged to the Phi Kappi Phi chapter at college and enjoyed the service that they performed for school activities. It was during this time that she met her husband Jerry Browning and became engaged and then married in the Idaho Falls Temple on April 23, 1958.

As their life together evolved over their first years together, they made approximately 6 moves from various apartments to homes as children arrived and more space was needed.  Jerry worked for his father at Browning Motors for a number of years, and after some time, acquired the farm machinery side of the business and named that business JB Equipment.  It was here that Sandra assumed the secretarial and accounting duties of the business and worked in that capacity with the help of her children for approximately 7 years.  Shortly after the Teton Dam collapse, JB Equipment closed and Sandra worked as a manager over the women's department at the local Blocks Clothing Store.  Later in life, after moving to Leeds, Utah, she would use those skills at Christensen's Department Store in St. George where she was a manager.  She was also the Leeds Water Company secretary for 15 years while living there.

About 20 years ago, Sandra and Jerry moved from Leeds, Utah, back to Idaho and settled in the Rexburg area, in a nice home where they had a magnificent view of the Rexburg Temple and had many opportunities to serve there.  She and Jerry served as Family History missionaries at BYU Idaho for nearly 13 years and grew to love genealogy and Family History.  Several years ago Sandra and Jerry moved to Mesquite, Nevada to be closer to family there and warmer temperatures.

Sandra has always been very service minded, and was well known to be always looking out for everyone around her, sometimes at her own expense.  She was always the consummate host and made sure everyone around her was well taken care of.  She loved her membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served faithfully in many callings including being a faithful ministering sister, teacher, and also served in several Relief Society and Primary Presidencies.  Sandra always loved to say that she loved her family!  She will be fondly remembered for this and greatly missed.
