Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing away of Seth Ammon Rieker on May 17th 2022 when Seth finally lost his 14 year battle with Type 1 Diabetes. Seth was a remarkable, brave and creative soul who thoroughly enjoyed being quirky, smart and finding joy in parts of our world that others may not have noticed.

Seth was born June 8th, 1999 in Baltimore, MD and lived most of his life as a very lucky military brat. He lived in Germany, Korea, Italy, Colorado Springs, and then finally warmed up to his liking in Phoenix Arizona. He then left for college at BYU Idaho and was able to live with his family in Washington DC for most of 2021.

Seth was unabashedly charismatic. He loved being his own self, and was one of the most original people ever, from wearing a suit to school every day for years, to dressing in either way too casual and sarcastic clothes or flamboyant and way too serious costumes. He was incredibly smart, and loved to show it off at times through solving puzzles, razer-sharp witty comments and head-slapping, groan-inducing puns. Almost everyone mentions his spectacular imagination. He gave us all only a taste of the stories and worlds he created, leaving us wishing that he had finally released his stories. He started by living and dressing throughout as some of his favorite fictional characters, notably Jack Skellington, Foxy the Pirate, and a character from RWBY. He read almost nonstop – there are family pictures of him reading in front of most of the world's famous locations! He also loved living out stories from the hundreds of books he read and creating costumes for them. He started writing his own stories as well, creating hundreds of ingenious entries for the fan fiction sites of his favorite fantasy/anime worlds. His latest love was being a DM for dungeons and dragons. His family and friends gathered weekly to experience him bringing his world to vivid life using great imagery and creating voices for his characters.

Seth was always a bit mischievous and fun, finding joy in making the world more humorous. He lived for finding the exact right sarcastic comment that passed just a bit over the heads of most people. He was not afraid to carry the joke to almost too far – like putting images of Nicholas Cage, John Cena or Shrek all around the house for April Fool's Day. Those who know Seth have been sending in "Seth Stories" from all over the world that show his amazing, quirky sense of humor. He has become famous for his Lego Wii and Christmas Pickle stories, among many others.

Seth was never one for formality or having regrets. He looked in every situation to find a way to make it fun and more spectacular, and easily shrugged off the burdens and heavy things life threw at him. He is overjoyed, watching us from above as we remember the fun, creative and mischievous creations he brought in to our lives. He certainly wants us all to remember the fun and joyous times, tell the best pun we can think of, wear something creative and just outside of social norms to try to make someone else smile. It will be his best and last laugh on us and with us.
Seth is survived by his parents Megan and Mark Rieker, 2 brothers Jacob and David, sister-in-law Krysia, Nephew Garrett, his Grandmother Carol Rieker and Grandmother and Grandfather Jim and Pat Fulcher, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
