Shanna Henderson

Shanna Lael Bean Henderson, 75, of Rexburg, died January 11, 2009, at the Salt Lake City LDS Hospital of acute leukemia. She was born April 17, 1933, in St. Anthony, Idaho, the daughter of Harold Malvern and Florence Jarman Kirby Bean. She grew up in Sugar City and graduated from Sugar-Salem High School.

Shanna married Virgil A. Ricks in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on April 2, 1952. They were later divorced. She married Claude L Henderson on August 24, 1979. They were sealed in the Ogden LDS Temple in July 1980. Claude died in December 2007.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in Primary, Relief Society, and as a Ward Family History Consultant. She served as a missionary at the Family History Center in Rexburg. In October of 2008 she was called to serve as a volunteer in the Rexburg Temple. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and at the time of her death she served as Captain of the Valeska Camp.

Her hobbies included embroidery, quilting, scrapbooking, card making and shopping with her daughters. She was a great cook and enjoyed her river trips with Claude.

She is survived by her son, Virgil Arden (Connie) Ricks of Rigby; daughters, Virginia Lael (Larry "Pete") Miller of Farr West, Utah, Teresa (Jeff) Brewer of Roy, Utah, Louise (Shane) Ricks of Sugar City, and Julie McCowan of Garden City, Idaho; step-children, Gordon (Cindy) Henderson, Janet (Frank) Robles of Tucson, Arizona, Marianne (Rod) Smith, Sheryl Fulton of Palm Springs, California, Claudia (David) Meiners of Phoenix, Arizona; 24 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, two sisters, Phyllis Ellsworth and Iris Beattie, two brothers Hal and George Bean; and two grandsons.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 16, at the Rexburg Third Ward Chapel, 345 S. 3rd West, with Bishop Paul Johanson officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg, and Friday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Burial will be in the Sugar City Cemetery.
