Obituary

Sharen Keele, née Hemming, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 23, 2024, at the age of 91. Born January 29, 1933, in Rexburg, Idaho, she was a cherished daughter of Cora Gertrude Pearson and Freeman Grover Hemming.

Sharen married her beloved husband, Merlin J. Keele, on June 26, 1951. Together, they built a beautiful life centered on faith, family, and adventure. A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Sharen and Merlin dedicated their lives to service, including fulfilling two missions for the church, first in Leeds, England and later in the Marshall Islands.

Sharen and Merlin owned and operated The Shoe Haus, a successful shoe store in Rexburg, Idaho, for many years, where they formed lasting connections with their community. Sharen also pursued a rewarding career as a travel agent, which allowed her to explore her passion for travel. She and Merlin journeyed extensively, visiting Russia, China, Europe, and other remarkable destinations. Among her favorite adventures was a cruise to Alaska, a place she held especially dear. In retirement, Sharen and Merlin eventually found themselves relocating to St. George, Utah, where they formed many great and lasting friendships and continued to enjoy life's many blessings.

A woman of many talents and interests, Sharen was an exceptional seamstress, a keen golfer, and a loyal fan of the Utah Jazz basketball team. She brought warmth, creativity, and dedication to everything she did, leaving behind a legacy of love and inspiration.

Sharen is survived by her siblings, Val Hemming (Alice), Paige Webb (Larry), Lane Hemming (Janice), and Jeannie Ure (the late Deloy); and her four loving daughters: Dana Hoopes (Stephen), Shelley Willie (Gregory), Holly Harris (Craig), and Blyss Capell (Kendall). She was the proud grandmother of 21 grandchildren, 77 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Sharen was preceded in death by one grandchild, Jeffery Stephen Hoopes, who passed in infancy but remains forever in the family's hearts; and her devoted husband, Merlin, with whom she shared more than 60 wonderful years of marriage. Her family finds comfort in knowing they are reunited once again.

Sharen's life was a testament to love, faith, and the joy of shared experiences. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her.
