Obituary

Sharma Helen Durfee passed away August 24, 2016 at the Carriage Cove in Rexburg. Sharma was born June 19, 1935 in View, Idaho to John and Mary Roy. She was the third of six siblings. She was raised and attended grades 1-12 in Gooding, Idaho.

On June 26, 1953 she was married to Jay Durfee in the Idaho Falls Temple. They have three children. They lived in several small towns in Idaho and in Baker, Oregon for ten years before moving back to Gooding in 1974.

Sharma went to college and graduated from Eastern Oregon University. She taught elementary school for three years, and finished her career as a high school librarian at Gooding High school, where she and Jay worked together.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She held callings as ward and Stake Young Women's President and as a Gospel Doctrine teacher for many years. She and Jay served in the Boise, Idaho Temple and as service missionaries at the Twin Falls LDS Employment Center. Sharma loved to read, sew, and garden. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Sharma is survived by children; Scott (Pauli) Durfee of Rexburg, Kevin (Rhonda) Durfee of Springfield, Oregon, and Karen (Kevin) Stewart of Rigby; brothers Byron (Pat) Roy, Jack (Ruth) Roy, Darwin (Char) Roy; Sisters Jana (Paul) Clarey, and Sharline Alvord. She has 14 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay and her parents, John and Mary Roy.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, September 3 at the Gooding LDS Chapel. The family will meet with friends Saturday from 10:00-10:45 at the church prior to services. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in Gooding under the direction of Flamm Funeral Home.
