IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sharon
Seamons
April 2, 1937 – March 19, 2024
Sharon Carter Seamons of Rexburg, Idaho passed away at home early on Tuesday morning, March 19, 2024. She had battled symptoms of congestive heart failure for many months.
Born April 2, 1937 in Twin Falls, Idaho, Sharon was the third child of Melvin William Carter and Birdie Ione Thueson. She grew up in Twin Falls and Buhl, Idaho.
Sharon excelled in school, was well-liked by her teachers, and served as a student secretary for the principal. She was editor of the school newspaper, accompanied the Glee Club, competed in speech and debate events, and served as Student Body Secretary. In her spare time, Sharon was in a singing group that performed at graduations, weddings, banquets, and funerals.
Throughout her childhood, Sharon loved to be with her family. She and her siblings worked at their father's meatpacking business. The family also formed a rather successful Hawaiian musical troupe. Throughout her life, Sharon loved the songs of Hawaii and hula dancing.
Sharon entered college after her junior year in high school, attending classes at Brigham Young University and Utah State University. Ultimately, she discovered she preferred being in the workforce, so she accepted a secretarial position at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.
Sharon found great joy in being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a teen, she served as ward organist. She then became a counselor in a Stake Young Women's presidency. In 1957, she was called to the Great Lakes Mission, which covered Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio.
Following her mission, Sharon returned to Dayton to work in a law office. She met Gary Royce Seamons at a Church dance, and the two were married a year later in the Idaho Falls Temple. Together, they reared six children on a small farm west of Roy, Utah, where the family lived for 30 years.
Once her children were in school, Sharon went to work at the local high school and, later, in the King & King Law Office, where she remained for more than two decades. During those years, Sharon loved to involve her children in building parade floats, creating roadshow scenery, and fulfilling Church assignments. She served faithfully in the Primary, Cub Scouts, Relief Society, Sunday School, and Choir.
Once Sharon and Gary retired, they moved to Buhl and became deeply involved in genealogy and the humanitarian effort. Both of them enjoyed making quilts (more than 20,000!). When Gary's health deteriorated, they moved to Rexburg, Idaho. There, Sharon began serving missions at BYU-Idaho and in the Distribution and Humanitarian Centers. She also participated in Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Once Gary passed away, Sharon served another full-time mission in the Los Angeles, California, Family History Library. Afterwards, she returned to Rexburg where she happily served in the temple and continued with her genealogy projects and humanitarian aid—making her last quilt in January of 2024.
Sharon is survived by: six children, Justin Royce (Laurie) Seamons, Rhonda Seamons, Shanna Seamons (Marcel) LeBlanc, Lisa Ione Seamons, Darren Carter Seamons, Taunya Seamons (Justin) Nelson; twelve grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a brother, Lyle Gordon (Susan) Carter; and a sister-in-law, LaRae Dunn (Ronald) Carter. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, a sister, a grandson, and a great-grandson.
Funeral services and burial will be in Buhl, Idaho.
