Obituary

Sherrill Dean Vance, 82 years, currently living in St. Anthony, Idaho passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2013 of incidents related to age.

Sherrill was born on March 11, 1931 in Stanford, Montana to Hyrum Golden and Arleen Alta Vance. He had 3 brothers and 3 sisters, Alta, Dale, Neil, Kemmer, Coreen and Doris. He lived in Stanford before moving to Bynum, Montana and then moving to the Fairfield Bench where he entered the Crow School and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1949. He attended Montana State College in Havre, Montana.

He joined the Marine Corps Reserve in 1949. He completed basic training at Camp Pendleton in California. Upon returning from basic training he was called to serve during the Korean War. He was awarded a Purple Heart after being wounded in action.

Sherrill married Lorna June Walker, August 5, 1953 in the Idaho Falls Temple. He attended school at Ricks College and completed a Master's Degree from Utah State University. He taught industrial arts for 35 years losing only one finger in shop class and survived countless driver education students. Although he spent many years in the classroom he especially enjoyed raising livestock. After retirement he taught at the St. Anthony work camp and was a life skills coach at Upper Valley Industries.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in which he faithfully served in many callings and assignments.

He is survived by Lorna, his wife of 60 years, his sons Kolin (Jackie), Tevis (Lisa), his daughters, Holly (Mark) Kartchner, Margo (Brent)Thompson, the light of his life 14 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a sister, and a granddaughter.

Funeral services will be Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 12:00 at the St. Anthony 2nd Ward/Twin Groves 2nd Ward chapel. The family will receive friends Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. untill 11:45 a.m. at the church prior to the services. Burial will be in the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery, Idaho Falls, Idaho under the direction of Bert Flamm Mortuary.
