In her final days she was surrounded by family that loved her dearly. Shirlene was born in St. Anthony, Idaho on July 26th, 1941. She was one of eight children born to Kenneth "Bill" and Jessie Welker Eckman.

Shirlene grew up in St. Anthony and graduated from South Fremont High School in 1959. She married Gary Kerbs and had two children: Carrie Dawn and Mike. She later retired to babysit her grandkids, nieces, and nephews. In 1990 she served a church mission in Salt Lake City, in the business office.

She loved downhill skiing, and enjoyed bowling in the women's league. She especially enjoyed their annual trips to Jackpot for state bowling. Shirlene loved spending time with her brothers, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved to host family parties at her house.

Shirlene's last years were shared between Homestead Assisted Living in St. Anthony and Rexburg. She did not see herself as a resident, but as an employee of Homestead. She cherished each and every friend she had there from the caregivers to the residents.
