Obituary

Shirley Clark, age 84, passed away from heart failure at the Homestead Assisted Living Center in St. Anthony, Idaho, on Christmas Eve.

Shirley was born on June 15, 1938, in Rexburg, Idaho, to James J. England and Stella Sylvia Briggs. She was the oldest of Stella's 5 children.

She loved school; she was an excellent student and always top of her class. She attended South Fremont High School until her senior year, when her family moved to Idaho Falls. She graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1956. She loved to read, she was a lifelong learner, and was always curious about everything. She was an excellent seamstress and cook. She loved to sing and share her talents with her family and friends.

She married James Gordon Clark in the Idaho Falls Temple on March 29th, 1957. They had four children: Kelly, Diane, Ron and Nanette. They lived in Newdale for 60 years. She loved raising her family there on the farm.

While Gordon attended USU in Logan, Utah, she took classes to learn how to make candy and decorate cakes. She became very skilled and taught classes in her home for years. She also taught at Ricks College. Many people have been blessed to be the recipients of her delicious chocolates and treats.

She was an artist and loved to paint with watercolor. Of all the things she learned in her life, she loved painting the most. She was so sad when her health began to diminish making it difficult for her to paint.

She was a treasured grandmother and loved her 16 grandchildren very much.

She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings. She especially loved sharing her musical talents in her Ward and with Primary children. She and Gordon served in the Idaho Falls Temple for several years and loved the time they spent there.

Just over a year ago, she moved to Homestead in St. Anthony. She was very happy there and loved all her caregivers.

She is survived by her children, Kelly Johnson (Scott), Diane Merritt (Bryan), Ron Clark (Julie) and Nanette Summers (Bart); her grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and her siblings Trudy Blackbern, Jerry England, Carrie Hartwig, and Doug England. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Clark; her siblings Carol Barrett, J.B. England, Chuck England, Max England, and Alberta Stewart; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.
