On February 14,2015, Valentine's Day, Shirley Marie Henderson Rice was rejoined with her sweetheart of over 70 years, Donald C Rice.
She was born January 8, 1927 in St. Anthony Idaho to Orville (Grandpa Pete) and Arvilla (Grandma Bobby) Henderson. She married Donald Rice July 12, 1944 in the Logan Utah LDS Temple.
Hers was a life of service to her community, her church, and to her family. She held many positions in the LDS Church, Salem Union Canal Board and served the Mayor of Sugar City after the Teton Dam Flood.
She will always be remembered as a spirited personality and lived up to her nickname "Sarge". She was not afraid of hard work and was an example of determination and faith through many trials in her life.
She is survived by her children: Brenda Dudley (Lewis) of Draper, Utah; Jan Hedberg (Allan) of Bountiful, Utah; Shari Meacham (Ken) of Menan, Idaho; Daris Rice (Venna) of Draper, Utah; and Jodi Nef of Idaho Falls, Idaho; brother, Gary (Charlene) Henderson of Reno, Nevada; sister-in-law, Julia Henderson of Brigham City, Utah; and her brother-in-law, Cleve Rice of St Anthony, Idaho. She has 24 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 20, at 11:00 a.m. in the Sugar City 4th LDS Ward Chapel. Friends and family may pay respects Thursday, February 19th at Bert Flamm Mortuary (581 E. 1st N., St. Anthony) from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. The visitation prior to the funeral will be from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the church. She will be buried in the Rexburg Cemetery.
