Obituary

It is with great somberness that we announce the unexpected death of Spencer William Roddick. Father, son, brother, friend—Spencer died in a tanker-truck accident on January 12, 2021 at the age of 34. Forever remembered by his parents, Jim and Eva Roddick; his siblings, Brian (Alena) Lewis, Collette (John) Boguslawski, Carl (Elysia) Lewis, Afton (Sean) Manley, Jacob Roddick, Stefanie Roddick, Rachael (Ryan) Hagge; his daughter, Jaidah Roddick; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Spencer was born January 17, 1986 in Anchorage, Alaska. From birth Spencer was a vibrant and energetic soul. At the age of five, he embarked on an "expedition" on his trusty bike chasing after his mom and dad down the highway despite the best efforts of his sister. At six he would stop over the top of man-hole covers and inquire after the Ninja Turtles (Raphael was his favorite). At ten, he was hustling people to buy boy-scout popcorn outside of the local grocery store. At eleven, he traded a Marlin Twenty-Two Long Rifle for some candy. By the time Spencer was in high school he had grown into a gifted athlete, playing hockey and soccer for both competitive clubs and the high school sports teams. In adulthood, his attention turned to his livelihood and his daughter, Jaidah. Jaidah was the light of his life and Spencer dedicated his work to her.

The most basic of pleasures brought great joy to Spencer. He reveled in good food, honest work, and good company. He was generous to a fault, often supporting the whims and ambitions of others without any concern for himself. He could frequently be found knocking on doors offering his help to everyone and anyone in need. He even once "borrowed" some family heirlooms to help a buddy out of a tight spot. Everyone who knew Spencer basked in his intensity and drive. Spencer had a deep and abiding fascination with tools, fabrication, and industry. He spent years in construction, in the oil fields, or in the driver seat of a big rig. He had a reputation for being a hard worker and an ambitious colleague.

Memorial service will be held at the Flamm Funeral Home on Thursday, January 21st at 11:00 AM. Following the memorial service, there will be a graveside dedication at the Sutton Cemetery in Archer, ID.

In lieu of flowers, tune-up your automobile, fill-up your gas tank (with gas), and check the tire pressure; he would have wanted that.
