Stanley William Hames, 76, passed away at Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix AZ on October 28, 2009. He was born in Washington, D.C., to Freda Seauberlich & Raymond Hames. He grew up in D.C., graduating from Western High School, Capital Radio Engineering Inst., and received a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Univ. of Maryland in 1958, where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa, an Assoc. Editor of the Old Line magazine, and a member of the Rainbow Mountain Boys, a bluegrass band.
He married Priscilla Lee in 1958; they had one son, Charles Stanley. He married Brenda Hill in Honolulu in 1966.
Stan was a telecom engineer for Northrop Page Communications in Wash, D.C. for many years, later working for ITT/Federal Elect. Corp.; Bechtel Power Corp., and Motorola. He helped design, construct, operate and manage communications systems and satellite earth stations around the world, residing in Japan, Iran, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia during his career.
He was a private pilot; proficient in photography & electronics; played classical violin in addition to bass, mandolin, banjo & uke. He was a Life Member of the NRA and a member of the Phoenix Rod & Gun Club..
Stan was preceded in death by his parents, brother, nephew and parents-in law - Grant and Belva Hill. He is survived by his wife Brenda of Phoenix; son, Capt. Charles S. Hames, M.D., US Navy, San Diego; granddaughter, Emily Nhi Hames, San Diego; one nephew; brothers and sisters-in law - DeLoy (Shirley) Hill of Rexburg, Lynn Hill of Parker, Rick (Julianne) Hill of St. Anthony, Suzanne (Thomas) Ricks of Rexburg, and Lorelei (Layne) Armstrong of Ashton.
Memorial and graveside services will be held at a later date in Idaho.
Donations may be made in his honor to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 East Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014-5656, the American Heart Association or a charity of choice.
