IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Stephen
Clark
May 16, 1944 – August 20, 2023
Stephen E. Clark was born May 16, 1944 in Salt Lake City to Osborn Peay and Jacquita Johnson Clark.
He grew up in Bountiful on a small farm and peach orchard where he learned the value of hard work.
His interests included football and wrestling. He was recruited by Coach Lavell Edwards and played Freshman football at BYU. While serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in California (1963-1965) his love for sharing the gospel grew into a fire that burned throughout his life. He returned to BYU and on June 22,1966 he married his sweetheart Ruth Ann Johnson in the Salt Lake Temple.
His life was devoted to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He started teaching seminary in 1968 in Firth, ID, then Shelley and Rexburg for a total of 17 years. He then spent the next 33 years teaching religion at Ricks College and BYU Idaho until he retired in 2018, completing 50 years teaching in the church education system. His love for his students and the Savior was one of his strongest attributes.
Steve and Ruth Ann enjoyed 57 years of marriage together. In this time they raised a family of nine children, 7 sons and 2 daughters. They enjoyed music, often singing together through the chores of hauling wood, building homes, and many, many road trips. Steve and Ruth Ann's biggest "hobby" together was their family. After that, they enjoyed to travel. Steve was able to lead many church and American history tours across the country, religious tours in Europe, Israel, and Egypt. They served a Temple Mission together in Palmyra, New York in 2019.
Steve will be remembered for his kindness to all, his willingness to serve others; especially his family, and his stalwart example and testimony of Christ. He had a talent of remembering names and his associations with everyone he met, always using his positive nature to lift others. He followed the Saviors example to "feed my sheep" and was often found searching for and helping the lost sheep.
He is survived by his beautiful wife, Ruth Ann and nine wonderful children, Steve (Jan), Paul (Heidi), Kimberly (Dave), Matt (Barbara), Josh (Tara), Dan (Mindy), Ben (Cindy), John (Krista), and Ann (Taylor), 40 amazing grandchildren and 23 great grand children. Also brothers, Jon (Vigdis), Mark (Chris), sisters Kathy (Joe) and Francie (Kirk).
A viewing in his honor will be held at Rexburg, ID Stake Center in Rexburg Sunday evening August 27 from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the Rexburg, ID Stake Center (845 W 7th S, Rexburg ID 83440) Monday, August 28 at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing before from 9:00a.m. -10:30 a.m. Burial will be at the Burton Cemetery.
