Obituary

Steven J Nelson, beloved Father, Son, Brother, Uncle, and Friend, was born on January 15th, 1951, to Dennis and Rita Nelson in Archer, Idaho, a small farming enclave near Rexburg. After a long struggle with illness, Steven peacefully passed away in the hospital on June 25th, 2023. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable moments.

Steven, known affectionately as Steve, had a unique talent for twisting words into silly Steveisms that somehow still made sense and brought smiles to the faces of those around him. His quick wit and playful nature endeared him to many. However, it was his warm and comforting hugs that truly made him one of a kind, earning him the reputation of giving the best hugs in the country.

While Steve had a rebellious and free-spirited nature, he found purpose and made lasting contributions to his community. He served in the National Guard, dedicating his time to protecting and serving his country. As a Volunteer Firefighter, he fearlessly rushed into danger to help others in times of need. For years, he selflessly devoted himself to the Rexburg Lions Club, positively impacting the lives of many in his community. Additionally, Steve spent the majority of his career at Intermountain Gas Company, where his hard work and dedication left an indelible mark. In retirement, he even spent a little time as the self-appointed town pirate after the loss of sight in one eye allowed him to live out a lifelong dream. He delighted in handing out pirate coins to the children and donning full regalia at Halloween.

Steve's vibrant personality made him the life of the party wherever he went. He was fun, outgoing, and always ready for an adventure. Despite his zest for exploration, he found solace in staying close to his roots, but that didn't stop him from indulging in some worldly travels. He cherished every opportunity to venture abroad with his loved ones, forging lasting memories and forming friendships along the way.

Above all, Steve was a rock for his family, providing unwavering support whenever they needed him. His presence brought stability and joy to their lives. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by the countless people who had the privilege of knowing him over the years. To all those lucky enough to have considered him family, whether strictly related by blood or not, his absence will be deeply felt.
Steve is survived by his eight siblings and their families, who will continue to cherish his memory. His only son, Damon, holds a special place in his heart and will forever carry the love and lessons his father shared.

In remembrance of Steve, let us celebrate a life filled with laughter, love, and a passion for making the world a better place. May his spirit continue to inspire us to embrace joy, seize every opportunity for adventure, and be there for our loved ones when they need us most.
Rest in peace, dear Steve. Your legacy lives on in our hearts.
