Ted Ard, 87, of Idaho Falls, formerly of Rexburg, died March 4, 2018, at Lincoln Court in Idaho Falls of natural causes. He was born June 4, 1930, in Clementsville, Idaho to Ken and Ida Ard. He was the eldest of six sons.
His parents had a dry farm where Ted worked hard. He started young, riding and operating the tractor and grain combine. His years of experience on the dry farm were cherished his entire life.
He attended school in the Canyon Creek area and graduated from Madison High School in Rexburg.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He served in South Carolina where he learned to run a tank as a commander, and also took part in some office duties.
After returning home from the service, he was married to Carmen Barbara West on September 29, 1954. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on June 2, 1964.
He owned and operated Ted's Phillips 66 and Ard Oil, a service/gas station, for 40 plus years with his brother Max Ard. Ted was a favorite of many locals and loved by his customers as they looked forward to visiting the "Station" to catch up on all the news in and around the Rexburg area. He retired from pumping gas around 1996, and estimated that he washed over a million windshields in his 40 years of working. He worked hard his entire life.
His hobbies included hunting and fishing with his brothers and cousins in the Canyon Creek area.
He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was a great man, with a big heart and was a real asset to all of his family.
The family extends a special thank you to Lincoln Court and all the staff there, and to the caregivers at One Source Hospice.
He is survived by his children, Kendra (Brian) Moncur and Neal (Beverly) Ard; brothers, Max (Carolyn) Ard and Tom Ard; nine grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carmen; and brothers, Dee, Robert and Gary Ard.
