Valoie Johnson Henderson, 91, of Rexburg, ID, died June 18, 2009 at the Homestead Assisted Living Center in Rexburg.
She was born November 23, 1917 in Hyrum, Utah, to Willard J. and Lillian Nielsen Johnson. In 1918 she moved with her family to Salem, ID. She attended Sugar City schools and graduated from Ricks College. Later she received her Bachelors degree from BYU and earned many post graduate credits from ISU, USU and MSU.
During World War II she worked as a civilian at Malstrom Air Force Base. During the war she received aeronautical training at Boise, Idaho and at Shelby County School of Aeronautics, Memphis, TN.
She married William R. Henderson at Superior, Montana in 1949. They later divorced.
At the end of the war she began her teaching career in Montana. After seven years she moved to Rexburg, and taught twenty five years in the Rexburg School District at the Old Adams Elementary School. She retired from teaching in 1980.
Her special interests were travel, art, crafts, all kinds of hand work, sewing, gardening, and she was an avid reader.
She is survived by sons W.R. (Francie) Henderson of Rexburg, and Steven F. (Kathy) Henderson of Idaho Falls, a brother H. Blaine Johnson (Shirley) of St. George, UT, and six grandchildren, Jill, Ryan, Lyndsey, Mark, Kelsey, Rebecca and one great granddaughter Ivy Valoie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 2009 at the Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Sugar City Cemetery.
