Alan Var Manwaring, 78, of Rexburg, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at Homestead Assisted Living in Rexburg. He was born December 18, 1931 in Rexburg, to David Heber Manwaring and Sarah Zella Hart. He was raised in Rexburg and attended Adams Elementary, Madison Junior High and Madison High School.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a two year mission for the church in the Western Canada Mission. He later served as a Bishop, a counselor in the bishopric, executive secretary to the stake president and a hometeacher.
He married Florence Whitworth on November 20, 1956 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
He attended and graduated from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He also did graduate work toward a Masters Degree at Utah State University in Logan, Utah.
He worked as a buyer for General Electric Co. in Richland, Washington, then as a purchasing agent for Thiokol in Brigham City, Utah, and then as a purchasing agent from Burroughs Corp. in Pasadena, California. He was the business manager for Manwaring Construction and co-owner/business manager of Florence's Exquisite Candies. He was involved in the community and served as the president of the Rexburg Rotary Club and as president of the Rexburg Chamber of Commerce.
He was a great example to all who knew him. He was patient, kind, loving, a tease, a whistler, happy and had a tremendous sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Manwaring of Rexburg, ID, his children; Kerry A. Manwaring of Alhambra, California, Michelle Manwaring (Vincent) of Salt Lake City, UT, Karen M. Lowe (Randy) of Boise, ID, Shauna M. Eaton (Jon) of Rexburg, ID, Brian K. Manwaring (Michelle) of Rexburg, ID, a brother D. Blair (Joann) Manwaring, as well as 14 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother and 3 sisters.
The family acknowledges the staff at Homestead Assisted Living for their care and support.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 14th at the Rexburg East Stake Center, Bishop Reed Stoddard officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home and from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery.
