Clarence Vaune Powell, 81, of Rexburg, Idaho, died January 1, 2024, from natural causes.
Vaune was born August 31, 1942, in Rexburg to Clarence "Sandy" Powell and Grace Knight Powell. He attended local schools and graduated from Madison High School in 1960.
Ten days after graduating from high school he enlisted in the Idaho National Guard with eleven of his classmates. They were sent to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri for their training. He was very patriotic and spoke fondly of the time that he was able to serve with his friends.
Vaune met his sweetheart of 62 years, Julia Kerswell, in 1959. They were married on June 28, 1962, and lived their entire married life in Rexburg. Three daughters were born to this union, Julie, Jane, and Tamra.
Vaune was a natural mechanic. He loved to build and fix cars his whole life. Vaune was known to his friends as "Mr. MOPAR". He worked as a mechanic for Utah Power and Light for many years, until his retirement in 1998.
Vaune loved Rock and Roll music deejaying. He had a side business known as "KC Sound" where he played music for dances, car shows, and class reunions.
Vaune is survived by his wife, Julia of Rexburg; daughters, Julie (Brett) Hancock of Rexburg, Jane (Joel) Johnson of Rigby, Tamra (Shawn) Steel of Stansbury Park, Utah; a brother, James (Brenda) Powell; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters, LaDonna, Doris, and Lois.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 8, 2024, at Flamm Funeral Home, 61 North 1st East, in Rexburg. The family will receive friends and family Sunday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., both times at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Rexburg Cemetery with military honors by the Idaho Honor Guard and the Madison County Veterans.
