Obituary

Venus Carleen Monson Fisher, age 79, returned to her heavenly home on April 30, 2021. She was born to Carl Herman Monson and Matilda Mary Spatig Monson on February 7, 1942, in Topaz, which is now known as Lava Hot Springs, Idaho.

Venus spent her early childhood on the family farm located outside of Lava Hot Springs. She enjoyed playing marbles, jacks, jump rope, and soft ball. She attended Marsh Valley High School in McCammon, Idaho, where she was active in the drill team and choir.

After graduating high school in 1960, she moved to Rexburg to attend Ricks College. She continued drill team as part of the Vikadettes during her college years. During one summer break, she enjoyed going to Vancouver, Canada, with her roommate to work at the Ford dealership. She received her associate degree from Ricks College in 1963.

While at Ricks College, Venus met her future husband, Fred Fisher. After dating for some time, they were married in the Logan Utah Temple on September 12, 1963. She always considered this one of her happiest moments.

She worked as a new accounts clerk and was an excellent typist. She knew shorthand and had beautiful handwriting. As a homemaker, Venus was talented at baking pies, canning, and caring for her children. She was a meticulous seamstress and made many of her children's clothes. In her spare time, she enjoyed embroidery and reading.

Venus was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. One of the callings her children remember most was her being Primary Chorister because they enjoyed having their mother in Primary with them. She also had the opportunity to tour several temples with friends and had fond memories of those experiences. Venus spent many years doing genealogy work and carefully documenting pictures. She did not have many childhood pictures, so she made sure her children did.

Venus is survived by her husband, Fred, and eight children: Janeil Grover of Rexburg, Jeanette Hill (Charles) of Rexburg, Kristy Hanson (Chuck) of Chester, Blair Fisher (Louise) of Ammon, Melanie Stimpson (Dan) of Peoria, Arizona, Lori Behrend (Jason) of Pocatello, Deena Brown (Trent) of Rigby, and Tara Egan (Matt) of Draper, Utah. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Venus was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: Beverly, Calvin, Floyd, Richard, and Mary Lou.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 3, 2021, at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg, Idaho, with Bishop Michael Bressler officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday, May 2, 2021, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and prior to the funeral service on Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Plano Cemetery.
