Verl Jay Lords, Jr., age 69, passed away on January 15, 2018 at his home in Sugar City, Idaho, after finishing the farm chores, and feeding his animals that he loved so much.
Verl was born in St. Anthony, ID to Mary Nelda Hendricks and Verl Jay Lords, Sr. on December 13, 1948. He graduated from North Fremont High School in 1967 and joined the Air Force that same year. He was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base where he was a survival training and resistance training instructor.
He married Roxanna Loran Bradley on September 6, 1968 in Missoula, MT. They later divorced. Together they had three children: Amy Lords Steele (Jared), Jill Lords Clawson (Torrey) and L. Jay Lords (Debbie). The family resided in Spokane, WA where he attended Kinman Business University and worked in sales. The family moved to Ashton in 1984 where Verl worked at the family-owned service station, Lords Auto & Supply. Verl later started work at the Juvenile Correction Center in St. Anthony in 1986. He retired in 2009. That same year, he married Denise "Nisi" Marie Voigt (Papke). Verl & Nisi built a family home together and enjoyed working on the family farm nurturing countless farm animals while happily blending the two families.
He is survived by his wife, Nisi, children: Amy Steele (Jared), Jill Clawson (Torrey), Jay Lords (Debbie) and step children: Kristin Nelson (Darrin), Brandon Papke (Jillian), Ky Papke (Jaleh), Bryce Papke (Chelsea), Keaton Papke (Natasha). Sisters Betty Lords, Connie Pace, Kristi Kent and brother Rick Lords. 7 Grandchildren: Hailey, Kristen, Crue, Cash, Holden, Ryker, Cort and 19 Step Grandchildren: Isaac, Andrew, Annalyse, Garrett, Zander, Treyson, Brig, Jaxton, Nash, Carter, Anya, Lincoln, Hudson, Taft, Stockton, Gunner, Melanie, Brayden, Ethan. He is preceded in death by both parents: Jay & Nelda, sisters Vicki Johnson and J'Lene Pharis
Verl will be remembered for his smile, kind heart, sense of humor, and mostly love for his family and animals. Verl had a love for people and considered all he met a friend.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 22, at the Sugar City LDS Stake Center. The family will receive family and friends Sunday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the stake center prior to services. Burial will be in the Sugar City Cemetery.
