Verla Pincock Moss, 95, peacefully returned to her Heavenly Home April 1, 2017, surrounded by her loving family members. Verla was born May 7, 1921, at the family farm home three miles east of Sugar City, Idaho to Irene Rohner and William Aaron Pincock. She was the second of four children--the only girl. Verla learned the value of hard work at an early age.
Verla attended school in Sugar City, graduating from high school in 1939. Two years later she graduated from Ricks College with an associate degree in elementary education. She taught elementary school at Iona, Teton City, and 26 years in the Sugar Salem School District. Verla taught grades 2-6, elementary music, and was instrumental in starting the Gifted and Talented program at Sugar Salem.
While at Ricks College, Verla met her future husband, Darrell Horman Moss. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple January 9, 1942, and were blessed with seven children: Billy, Neil, Darlene, Peggy, Jill, Joy and Anne.
Verla had a natural talent for music. She played the piano, organ, flute and piccolo, and she performed with the orchestra in both high school and college. Verla believed every child should have the opportunity to learn music. She taught piano lessons until she was 90 years old.
As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Verla served in Primary, Young Women, Sunday School, and Relief Society. She loved doing family history, and compiled two books about her Pincock and Rohner heritage. Verla spent time every day doing indexing and arbitration. Her efforts resulted in over 405,000 names.
Verla had a great love for her community and volunteered on the Beautification Committee for many years. She was known as a "person who could get things done" and was also involved with the Democratic Party in politics.
Verla was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Gean, Kenton, LaMar; Darrell, her husband of 50 years; Darlene Moss-Faretti, daughter; sons-in-law: Isa'ako Faretti, Gerald Ball, Tom Wiser; and one great-grandson, Toby Moss. Verla is survived by her children: Billy (Ann) Moss of Rexburg; Neil (Libby) Moss of Boise; Margaret "Peggy" Wiser of Rexburg; Jill Moss and Joy Ball of Sugar City; and Anne (Craig) Moss Williams of Idaho Falls. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.
Special thanks is extended to Rexburg Home Health and Hospice for their tender care of our mother.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 7, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Sugar City Gray Church, 6 North Teton Ave., Sugar City with Bishop Michael Guymon officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:30-7:00 pm at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg, and on Friday from 10:00-10:45 am at the church. Burial will be in the Sugar City Cemetery.
