Veta Child Bailey, 88, of Rexburg, Idaho, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Veta was born on September 27, 1937, in Clinton, Utah, to Leslie Lawrence Child and Viola Butler Child. She was the youngest child and the only daughter, growing up alongside her three brothers: Lawrence, Spencer, and Don Child.

She attended Clinton Grade School, North Davis Junior High in Clearfield, Utah.  She graduated from Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah. While in high school, Veta and Ed Bailey began dating and that was the beginning of their love story. They were married on May 19, 1955, in Roy, Utah, and later sealed in the Rexburg Idaho Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for time and all eternity.

Throughout their 62 years together, Veta and Ed made their home in several communities including Preston, Lava Hot Springs, Hamer, Shelley, and Rexburg, Idaho. Together they were blessed with four wonderful children: Jackie (Reid) Call of Rexburg, Idaho; Scott (Corinne) Bailey of Preston, Idaho; Jerry (JoAnn) Bailey of Pocatello, Idaho; and Vickie (Mark) Jensen of Rexburg, Idaho. Veta's family was her greatest joy, and she was a devoted grandmother to 20 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren, and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

Veta enjoyed many hobbies and interests throughout her life, including bowling, boating, camping, sewing, crocheting, scrapbooking, and collecting lighthouses and spoons. She loved cruising, fishing in Alaska, and spending winters in Arizona. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family.

She was an exceptional homemaker who took great pride in maintaining a clean and welcoming home. Veta was a constant source of support to Ed in all of his adventures and pursuits. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of a mother's unconditional love—one that will continue to be felt for generations.

Veta was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved granddaughter, Nancy (Call) Garn and her husband Edgel "Ed" Bailey.

She will be deeply missed and leaves a void in the hearts of her family and all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at the Rexburg Idaho Stake Center, located at 845 W. 7th S., Rexburg, Idaho. The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 11:50 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Teton-Newdale Cemetery.
