Obituary

Viola May Dixon Moon, 98, of St. Anthony, died Friday, October 28, 2016 at her home.

She was born January 17, 1918 at Richfield, Idaho to Elmer Charles and Nora Viola Martin Dixon. She was raised in the Richfield and Sarilda areas and attended school in Sarilda and Ashton through the eighth grade, when out of necessity she was forced to quit school and work on the family farm. She regretted having to leave school and later went on to earn her GED.

Viola was a real pioneer, riding horses and driving wagons. As a teenager she lived in a tent in the mountains during the summers, where she tended the cows and hauled milk to the train. She loved to attend barn dances on weekends with her family. She enjoyed music and loved to sing and play the harmonica.

She married Philip Blain Moon on August 1, 1937 in St. Anthony. Blain passed away in January, 2000.

Viola worked throughout her life to support her family. She worked as a waitress in the China Clipper for 15 years and as a cook at South Fremont High School for 15 years. She worked at Artco for 7 ½ years and cooked at the Senior Citizens for 3 years.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she enjoyed callings teaching in the Sunday School and serving in the Library. She lovingly served others all her life, making many baby quilts and blankets for family, friends and neighbors. She was active at the senior citizen center and will be remembered for being sweet and kind to everyone whose path intersected hers.

She is survived by daughter-in-law, Barbra Moon of Clearfield, UT; sons, Larry Moon of Monroe, WA; Lynn Moon of St. George, UT; and Steve (Chris) Moon of Farmington, UT; daughter, Sandee (Jim) Hunter of St. Anthony, ID; a brother, Clarence (Dorothy) Dixon of Ogden, UT; 28 grandchildren, 86 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Blain Moon; a son, Vernal Moon; sisters, Rosela, Elva, Florence, LaVaugn and Della; brothers, Johnny, Charles, Ray and Glenn.

Funeral services will be Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the St. Anthony 2nd
LDS Ward Chapel (145 East 4th North) with Bishop Danny Draper officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:00 noon until 12:45 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Parker Cemetery under the direction of Bert Flamm Mortuary. The family suggests donations to the Senior Citizens.
