V.J. Bagley

Vivan J. Bagley, 86 of Salem, Idaho, died November 27, 2009 at the Madison Memorial Hospital. He was born August 30, 1923 at Salem, Idaho to Lorenzo Edwards Bagley and Ethel Eliza Jensen Bagley. He married Willa Verlee Peterson on October 22,1952 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.

Vivan attended Sugar-Salem schools, graduating from high school in 1941. During his Junior and Senior years and for four years afterwards he worked during the summer and fall for Earl Harshburger in the Squirrel, Drummond and LaMont areas. He was then able to buy a truck and do custom hay hauling. He hauled hay and helped in the sheep for J.D. Taylor at Hamer, Idaho. He also hauled milk for Challenge Creamery, in Rexburg, for four years. He enjoyed horses especially his rides with his good friends, John Orme and Vern Winters. Vivan enjoyed his family and always had a Jolly Rancher for the grand-kids. He was one of the original riders in the Upper Valley Wrangler Posse. Vivan was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the Sunday School, Young Mens and High Priest Groups.

Survivors include his wife Willa Bagley of Salem, children; Cleve (Sue) Bagley of Salem, Joy (Lynn) Shuldberg of Idaho Falls, Treeva (Lance) Lyon of Lemhi, Lona (Todd) Phillips of Burley, a sister; Vesta Withers of Hibbard and brothers; Quenton (Norma) Bagley of Salem, Myron (Rose) Bagley of Rexburg, Cloy (Marilyn) Bagley of Fountain Valley, CA, 12 grandchildren and 9 great grand children.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Dale and Vaughn, sisters; Eddris, Loa, Beth and Maurice and a son Vaughn P.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at the Salem LDS Church with Bishop Cleve Bagley officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Tuesday at the church from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services.
