W. Keith Walker
Winslow Keith Walker, 76 of Rexburg, died Monday, September 28, 2009 at his home. He was born November 18,1932 at Rexburg to R. Willis Walker and Mabel Ovard Walker. He married Lorene H. Hirschi on September 25, 1953 in the Salt Lake LDS temple. She died in 1979. He married Charlotte Louise Gehmlich on August 8,1980 in the Idaho Falls LDS temple.
He was raised in Rexburg, graduated from Madison High School and was active in farming and ranching. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving as a bishop's counselor, bishop of the Rexburg 8th Ward, Young Men's president, Sunday School president and stake high councilman. He served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean War. He served six years as a Madison County Commissioner, one term as chairman and that was during the time of the Teton Dam Flood. He also served as a director and board member of the Teton Island Canal Company. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, the outdoors, making metal sculptures, ranching, tree farming and serving other.
He is survived by his wife Charlotte Walker of Rexburg , ten children and three step-children; Robert (Daleicia) Walker of Rexburg, Carey (Martin) Frandsen of Rexburg, Sherrie Walker of Provo, UT, Lynda (Michael) Keith of Provo, Clint (Terri) Walker of Castlerock, CO, Kim (Melanie) Walker of Rexburg, Kevin (Melanie) Walker of Spanish Fork, UT, Ryan (Lori) Walker of Rexburg, Jerry (Heidi) Walker of Soda Springs, ID, Shane (Elisa) Walker of Thornton, CO, Alana (Shaun) Clements of Idaho Falls, Paula (Edward) Latimer of Pleasant Grove, UT, Tim (Shannon) West of Rexburg, his siblings; Lois Grover, Ray (Sylvia) Walker, Joan (Lee) Johnson all of Rexburg, Sharon (Robert) Orme of St. Anthony and Darlene (Farrell) Davidson of Rexburg. Also surviving are 49 biological grandchildren and 12 step-grandchildren and 18 biological great grandchildren and 3 step-great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents Willis and Mabel Walker, his wife Lorene, an infant daughter Peggy Ann Walker, a sister Verla Jean Walker, an infant brother and three grandchildren; Tyler Oscar Walker, Brendan James Walker, Trevor Allen Walker and a brother-in-law; Dean Grover.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 2, 2009 at the Rexburg North LDS Stake Center (315 East 2nd North) with Bishop Dane Dickson officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the stake center prior to services.
