Obituary

Jack Warren Smith, Jr., 71, of Rexburg, passed away October 14, 2017, at Madison Memorial Hospital of congestive heart failure. Warren was born July 2, 1946 in Rexburg, the son of Jack Warren Smith, Sr. and Fern Beattie Smith. He was the second of six children.

He graduated from Madison High School in 1964, where he enjoyed playing football and basketball. He participated in the FFA program and was an Eagle Scout. He served in the Army Reserve for six years from 1965 - 1971, serving as an M.P. He attended basic training at Fort Ord California during the Vietnam Conflict.

Warren served as secretary and later chairman of the Madison County Airport Advisory Board for many years. He enjoyed aviation and serving the community.

His love of cars started early. He worked for Ford Motor in Rexburg as a bookkeeper and later parts manager and service manager for Raymond Hill. He worked for his brother-in-law, Frank Thompson, as a parts manager. In 1972, he went to work with his friend Brent Grover driving truck. One interesting job he had was working on the Ririe Dam. Warren worked in Rexburg for various auto dealerships in Sales and Parts. He finished the last 30 years of his career at Taylor Chevrolet.

Warren enjoyed fishing, boating, riding motorcycles, flying airplanes, watching sports, and was an avid reader.

Warren married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Ann Thompson, on June 14, 1968. They were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Warren is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, of nearly 50 years; their two children, Nathan (Kimberly) Smith and Kristan (Adrian) Alford; and four grandchildren, Ryan Smith, Ashley Smith, Aeden Alford and Korben Alford; three siblings, Ruth Ann (Richard) Hills, Mark Smith, and Gina (Allen) Roberts. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack W. and Fern Beattie Smith; two sisters, Norma Jean "Jennie" Glover and Caryn Gail Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m on Saturday, October 21, at the Burton East LDS Chapel, 2332 West 2000 South, with Bishop Michael Bressler officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives Friday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Rexburg Cemetery.
