Wendell Edstrom, our beloved Father, brother and grandfather passed away peacefully at home in Riverton, Utah, on June 4, 2018, at the age of 91. Wendell was born in Thornton, Idaho on March 28, 1927 to Arvid and Pearl Edstrom.
Raised on a farm in Thornton, Idaho, where he worked hard and learned the meaning of commitment to family, his Father in Heaven and his country. He loved to ride his horse, Doll, and often rode bareback and fast!
As a Junior in high school, Wendell left school to join the Navy, once the war ended he completed high school.
Wendell served a two-and-a-half year mission to Sweden for the LDS Church.
He later met the love of his life, Mada Layton and they were married in the Idaho Falls, Temple December 30, 1953. He worked hard to support his family and taught them to do their duty to God and country. He was a kind and loving father and grandfather and he loved to be around his grandchildren. We love him, and he will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mada, their son Kim, and their great granddaughter Rachel Hymas.
Wendell is survived by his children: Joy (Jay) Erickson of Roseburg, OR; Bruce (Cindy) Edstrom of Riverton, UT; Reid (Colette) Edstrom of Salem, UT; Gordon (Cheryl) Edstrom of Merlin, OR, and Gayle (Mike) Tolman of Vale, OR; 19 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Vernon (Ruth) Edstrom of Burton, ID; Verda (Bob) Willyerd of Rockville, MD; Wanda (Joe) Seeley of Kaysville, UT; Delynn (Judy) Edstrom of Perry UT; Delbert (Linda) Edstrom of Burton.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, on Saturday, June 9, at the Burton LDS West Chapel, 3958 West 2000 South, in Rexburg. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Rexburg Cemetery under the direction of Flamm Funeral Home.
