Obituary

Wesley Dean Christensen "Coach Wes", age 91, passed away April 20th, 2021.

Wes was born February 1, 1930 in Logan, Utah to Arnold and Rachel Christensen as the 4th of 9 children. Wes was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served faithfully in many callings. He graduated from South Cache High School and he attended and graduated from Utah State University in Logan, Utah. After graduation, he served in the military, stationed in Germany. After he was honorably discharged as a 2nd Lieutenant, he married Barbara Hansen, the love of his life. Together they had four children: Jeffrey (deceased), Teresa, Ronda, and Gaye. Barbara passed away in 1977 and he married Carol Wasden, whom he was married to for 42 years.

Coach Wes was an incredible man who loved his family, his horses, and his mission with Carol in Nauvoo. He will be remembered for his legacy of hard work, getting back up again when you fall, and his love especially of his grandkids.

He also loved coaching wrestling and his boys. He started his career as a coach at Teton High School, then in Ashton at North Fremont High School, transferred to South Cache in Hyrum, Utah, then to Skyview in Smithfield, Utah. He then had a successful career of 29 years at Ricks College where he coached wrestling, football, and taught physical education. He was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame for his lifetime service in coaching, after 42 years of doing the job that he loved. He was further honored for his service by induction into the Idaho and Utah Halls of Fame.

Wes is survived by his second wife, Carol, his daughters Teresa, Ronda (Hyrum), and Gaye (Dan), as well as his siblings Florence, Dave, Kathryn, Ivan, Ralph, and Lynn, grandchildren Angeline, Sharee, Kristen, Dallin, Jenice, and Andrew, as well as 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, son Jeffrey, parents, Arnold and Rachel, brothers Arnie and Owen, and his beloved granddaughter, Jerica.

The family would like to thank Alliance Hospice out of Idaho Falls. We appreciate that they went above and beyond in service to our father.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 23rd at 11:00 AM with a viewing an hour prior to the services. The funeral and viewing will be held at Sugar City Stake Center 315 East 300 South, Sugar City, Idaho, 83448. Interment will be in Cache-Clawson Cemetery in Tetonia, Idaho, later that day, next to his wife Barbara, with military honors.
