Obituary

Our loving mother, wife, grandmother and sister, Zada Maxene Higginson Smith, passed away peacefully, Monday, June 12, 2023, in her home. She had been without the love of her life, Larry, for 11 years and we know they had a happy reunion.

Zada was born in Blackfoot, Idaho, on August 4, 1940, to George Anson and Elfie Augusta Goetzl Higginson. It was an exciting day when Zada arrived just 10 minutes after her identical twin sister Zola. They shared a unique relationship, and she treasured their lifelong friendship.

She attended school in Rockford and Thomas, Idaho and graduated from Snake River High School in 1958. While attending Ricks College, she met and dated Larry Leonard Smith of Rexburg. She was transferring to Brigham Young University for the next fall, and it was during this time that Larry decided he couldn't live without her, so he proposed. They were married in the Idaho Falls LDS temple on March 24, 1961. They made their home in Burton just West of Rexburg, Idaho.

Together, they worked on their farms in Burton, Newdale and Monteview, Idaho. They raised cattle, wheat, barley, potatoes, hay and children. "Choose you this day whom ye will serve, but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." This scripture hung on the wall of their home throughout their 50 years of marriage. She was a gifted seamstress and loved all of her sewing machines. She made many quilts for her children,
grandchildren and even her great grandchildren.

Zada was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities. One of her favorite callings was to work with the Relief Society sisters in the student wards at Ricks College. She kept in contact with many young women she met there.

Zada is survived by her children, Marlene (Thomas) Page of Centerville, Utah; Marie (Marvin) Hansen of Arimo, Idaho; Annette (Roy) Nebeker of Celina, Texas; Max & Camille (Mecham) Smith of Twin Falls, Idaho and Anson & Gretchen (Peterson) Smith of Chubbuck, Idaho; sister, LeAnn (Steve) Castleton; sister-in-laws, Faye Nef and Beulah Higginson; 22 grand children and 20 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband and parents, her siblings, Gary Higginson, Gay Covington and Zola Hancock.

The family will receive friends, Monday, June 19th, from 5:30 to 7:00 PM at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg, Idaho. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 21st at the Pocatello 41st Ward Chapel, 1700 Kinghorn Rd, Pocatello, Idaho. There will be a viewing before the service on Wednesday from 10:00-10:45 AM. Interment will be in the Burton Cemetery.
