Obituary

Paul Richard George, 62, died peacefully on the morning of December 31, 2020, in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Paul was born on July 19, 1958, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Elmer George Jr. and Mary Anne Butler. He graduated from Guilderland Central High School in Albany, New York and attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Paul married his wife, Leslie Butterfield, on June 27, 1980, in Ogden, Utah. After moving to Omaha, Nebraska in 1982, Paul started his business as a ceramic tile contractor that he owned and operated for over 30 years. Omaha is where Paul and Leslie raised their six children before moving to Rexburg, Idaho.

Paul and Leslie welcomed their six children into their home between 1981–1994. Paul's strong "do-it-yourself" spirit was passed to each of his children, along with his signature stubborn determination. Paul was no stranger to hard work and the act of dedicating oneself to doing the right thing the right way. He will be remembered for his ability to learn new skills and trades, and his confidence to pass the knowledge he gained to all those around him. He was a devoted husband and father who never hesitated to love and support those he loved. He enjoyed time with his children and grandchildren and found immense joy in their presence.

Paul's quiet, competitive nature suited him well as a talented golfer. Any time that wasn't devoted to his family would often be spent playing and competing in golf tournaments around the country. Paul loved classic-rock, was a self-taught guitarist, and often played his favorite Van Halen songs by ear.

Paul was an active and faithful member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served a two-year mission in Montana and Wyoming at 19 years old. Paul held various leadership callings within the church including Bishop of the Fremont Ward in Fremont, Nebraska. He loved to serve and help those around him.

Paul enjoyed life and seeking out what truly matters. His faith, devotion to family, humble temperament and gracious nature will be remembered by all.

Paul is survived by his wife, Leslie George, of Rexburg, Idaho; six children and their spouses, Rebecca and Anthony Garrison of Dover, Delaware, Daniel and Ellen George of Vineyard, Utah, Michael and London George of Overland Park, Kansas, Thomas and Nicole George of Cartersville, Georgia, Benjamin and Kelsey George of Hutto Texas, Emma and Douglas Jones of Rexburg, Idaho; and his 18 grandchildren. Paul was awaiting the arrival of one additional grandchild. He is also survived by his brothers Steven George of Fruita, CO and Mark George of Cedar Hills, UT. He is preceded in death by his father, Elmer George Jr.; mother, Mary Anne Butler; and brother, David George.

A viewing and visitation is scheduled for Friday, January 8, 2021 from 4-5:30 PM at Flamm Funeral Home, 61 North 1st East, Rexburg, ID. A slide show will be available on the mortuary website .
